Our Story
“To unite for a positive future for all.”
In response to the Climate and Ecological Emergency, humankind must take action globally, nationally, locally, and in our households to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The UK government committed to Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, and BANES Council declared a climate emergency in March 2019, followed by an ecological emergency in July 2020.
In early 2021, a small group of BANES residents came together to create a climate centre for our area. Our vision was a space for positive conversations on the interconnected climate and nature crises and practical action steps. Through networking with the council and other organisations, we started the Green Outreach Hub—a monthly pop-up stall in the city centre covering green themes like carbon reduction, sustainability, and biodiversity.
In December 2022, we registered the Climate Hub as a charity. We have since engaged the community through pop-ups and events at local carnivals and gatherings with climate and nature-based activities.
Our vision is to create a central ‘hub’ where people and organisations can come together to address the climate and nature emergencies. Despite the variety of eco and green groups in BANES, a physical space to unite these efforts and engage positively with more people remains essential.
The next phase came in November 2024, with the opening of our physical Hub in Bath Bus Station’s old ticket office.
Looking ahead, we are developing our hub further to support our eco-cooperation groups in BANES, showcase regional events, and serve as a one-stop resource for all climate-related activities in the area.
